A flawless complexion is lying just beneath the surface of your skin. From pigmentation to acne, there’s not much a chemical peel can’t tackle. Here is everything you need to know to reveal your radiant glow.

What Is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a cosmetic procedure that involves applying a chemical solution to the skin to exfoliate and eventually cause the outermost layer of skin to peel off. This process encourages the growth of new, healthier skin cells, resulting in improved skin texture, tone, and appearance. Chemical peels address various skin concerns like:

  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Texture
  • Active acne
  • Hyperpigmentation

This treatment is excellent for any skin type and typically for someone looking to improve their complexion and address specific skin concerns.

Types of Chemical Peels

Depending on the depth of the peel, you may experience varying levels of peeling. Superficial peels might cause minimal flaking, while deeper peels can lead to more noticeable peeling as the skin regenerates.

  • Superficial peels: These are the mildest type and help exfoliate the outer layer of skin, improving texture and giving a fresher appearance.
  • Medium peels: These use a stronger blend of acids to penetrate deeper into the skin. They can target more significant skin issues like fine lines, wrinkles, and mild pigmentation.
  • Deep peels: These can effectively address severe skin concerns like deep wrinkles and scars but sometimes require a longer recovery time.

What if I Don’t Experience Peeling?

If your skin doesn’t physically slough off, it is not necessarily a cause for concern. The extent of peeling can vary depending on factors like:

  • The type and depth of the peel
  • Your skin’s natural exfoliation process
  • Your individual skin characteristics

Some people may have a subtler peeling process that is not immediately noticeable, while others might experience more visible flaking or peeling. The absence of visible peeling doesn’t necessarily indicate that the peel didn’t work or that you won’t see the desired results. The treatment would still have improved your skin texture and tone or addressed specific concerns beneath the surface.

What to Expect

Consultation
You’ll start with a consultation with one of our Licensed Medical Aestheticians to discuss your skin concerns, goals, and medical history and determine the most suitable type and strength of chemical peel for your skin. Realistic expectations are key. A chemical peel can enhance your skin’s appearance but might not provide the same results as other cosmetic procedures.

Being honest and open during your consultation is important to ensure your safety and achieve the best possible results.

Treatment Day
When you arrive for your treatment, your skin will be cleansed to remove any makeup, oils, or impurities. The chemical solution will be carefully applied to your skin in a controlled manner. You may experience a tingling, stinging, or mild burning sensation while applying the chemical solution. This sensation is temporary and usually subsides as the peel progresses.

After Treatment

  • Exfoliating Stage: After the treatment, your skin will begin to exfoliate and peel naturally. The extent of peeling can vary based on the type and depth of the peel and is not instant; it could take up to three days or more. Some people experience light flaking, while others may have more noticeable peeling.
  • Recovery: Your skin might appear red or slightly swollen immediately after the peel. Your total peel process typically takes 7-10 days, and downtime is minimal. It is important to follow the post-peel instructions to ensure proper healing. This may involve gentle skincare products, avoiding sun exposure, and staying hydrated.
  • Results: Over the following days and weeks, you should notice improvements in your skin’s texture and tone and targeted concerns like fine lines, pigmentation, or acne scars.
  • Protection: After a chemical peel, your skin is more sensitive to the sun and heat. Using a medical-grade broad-spectrum sunscreen daily and limiting sun exposure to prevent hyperpigmentation and protect your healing skin is essential.
  • Follow-Up Sessions: Multiple peel sessions may be recommended to achieve the desired results depending on your skin care goals. These sessions are typically spaced several weeks apart.
