Women with Rejuvenated Face

Facial fillers are among the most sought-after cosmetic treatments. They effectively rejuvenate the skin’s youthful appearance and can be injected into most areas of the face to correct and restore volume that has been lost due to weight loss, aging, or other factors. Our Aesthetic Injector, Sasha Gordon, explains how this popular treatment came about and how it has evolved over time.

The Evolution of Facial Fillers

1890’s: It Started with Paraffin
Paraffin wax was the first known injectable agent. However, its use as a dermal filler proved less than effective after complications like migration, embolization, and granuloma formation were common after treatment.

Mid-1900’s: A New Ingredient Is Tested
Silicone was used to help achieve a more youthful, smoother appearance. However, it was also short-lived as the type of silicone caused granulomas (small masses of tissue under the skin).

1970’s – 1980’s: FDA Approves Animal Collagen
Animal (bovine) collagen was first introduced and tested in the 1970s and approved by the FDA in 1981. While the cosmetic injection agent showed much promise, there were still a few drawbacks. Patients reported allergic reactions and swelling, and the results didn’t last long.

2000’s: Hyaluronic Acid Enters the Scene
Hyaluronic Acid (HA), a substance that naturally occurs in our bodies, was FDA-approved in 2006 and has been the top choice for dermal fillers ever since they last longer than bovine collagen and are less reactive in the body.

Present Day
Today, there are multiple facial filler options to choose from. At Red Mountain Weight Loss®, we are proud to use  Juvéderm® for various cosmetic purposes. While the results are temporary, fillers can last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. With dermal fillers, you can:

  • Treat lines and wrinkles around the nose, mouth, and chin
  • Restore and enhance volume in the lips and cheeks
  • Provide structure and support to the midface and jawline

What Is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is the #1 chosen dermal filler collection in the U.S., offering various unique and long-lasting fillers. Each adds volume and is designed for different needs in specific areas of the face, including lips, cheeks, chin, smile lines, or jawline. The fillers contain a modified form of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) that keeps skin moisturized and soft and provides natural-looking results. With optimal treatment, they last one to two years.

At Red Mountain, we offer the complete Juvéderm Collection:
