Did you know that collagen loss starts in our early 20’s? By 30, we lose about 1% of collagen per year. Explore what causes collagen loss and what aesthetic treatments we offer at Red Mountain Weight Loss® to restore your skin.

What Causes Collagen Loss?

Collagen is a strong flexible protein that serves as one of the main building blocks providing support to our skin. Aging collagen-depleted skin is due to both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Intrinsically, the cells in our body that produce collagen (known as fibroblasts) no longer make it as efficiently as they once did. Extrinsically, our existing collagen becomes damaged and breaks down, leaving us with wrinkles, folds, and a loss of skin volume and support.

4 Treatments to Restore Collagen Production

There is research that supports oral collagen supplements help accelerate collagen production. However, there are aesthetic treatments you can do to boost collagen production and help slow the signs of aging.

Sculptra® Aesthetic
Sculptra Aesthetic is a biostimulatory injectable treatment made from lactic acid. The injected microparticles are absorbed by the skin, which stimulates natural collagen production to reinforce the skin’s inner structure and restore volume. The effects of the treatment gradually build over time — with noticeable improvement within the first few months and results that last over 2 years.

Microneedling
Microneedling uses a micropen to create “micro-injuries” in the skin. This controlled injury minimizes cellular damage and stimulates the body’s natural wound-healing process to create new skin cells and collagen. The new skin cells help create a more even texture and tone, while the collagen helps the skin’s firmness. Adding your own growth factors called PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) to a Microneedling treatment further aids in the skin repair process.

VI Peel Precision Plus
Chemical peels involve the controlled application of an acidic solution onto the skin to achieve deep exfoliation and skin rejuvenation. The VI Peel is a medium to deep peel that stimulates new cell growth and triggers collagen and elastin production during the healing process. This peel is formulated specifically to treat different skin issues like acne, pigment issues, and scars and to revive dull, tired skin. After a single treatment, your skin will reveal a brighter and healthier complexion.

Signature DiamondGlow®
DiamondGlow is a non-invasive skin resurfacing facial treatment to restore the skin’s natural radiance. It uses a wand that simultaneously exfoliates, extracts, and infuses the skin with SkinMedica® Pro-Infusion Serums to provide immediate results. DiamondGlow is fully customizable and an excellent solution to various skin concerns, such as acne-prone skin, uneven skin tone, dryness, and aging skin.
