Before a Juvéderm treatment, you will meet with your Aesthetic Injector to review your medical history and provide a facial analysis and treatment plan. The treatment itself is non-surgical and minimally invasive. It can be performed in less than 1 hour, and the results are immediate. Keep in mind you will likely experience some swelling and bruising that usually subside within a few days to a couple of weeks. Other common side effects include redness, tenderness, lumps or bumps, and itching.
Recovery time is minimal. However, for the first 24 hours after your treatment, you should avoid:
- Alcoholic beverages
- Any strenuous exercise
- Exposure to extensive sun and heat
- Extreme cold temps
- Pressure or direct manipulation of the area
Myth #1: Dermal Fillers Will Make Me Look Like a Different Person, Overdone & Fake

Myth #2: Getting Filler Is a Painful Process
Most people say that filler feels like a quick pinch, and the treatment is tolerable! We can apply a topical numbing cream to help numb the area before treatment. The Juvéderm Collection of Fillers also contains pain-reducing lidocaine, which doubles down on reducing discomfort.
Myth #3: It Doesn’t Work/I Can’t Tell the Difference
While the results can be subtle, there are real results! If you are on a tight budget, focusing on just one treatment area is better to see maximum benefit and improvement.
Myth #4: There Will Be a Lot of Bruising or Down Time
Bruising and swelling are always a possibility with filler injections. Bruising is typically minimal and can be concealed with makeup. Swelling is improved with ice and lasts only 48-72 hours. As a precaution, we recommend you avoid treatment two weeks before a vacation, travel, or a major event.
Myth #5: Fillers Can Replace a Surgical Facelift
While fillers add volume and can give the appearance of “looking lifted,” they are not a replacement for surgery. Facelift surgery tightens the deeper tissues while removing excess and sagging skin.
Myth #6: Fillers Can Be Placed Anywhere Because They Are All the Same
Not all fillers are the same! The Juvéderm Collection of Fillers is all designed to be placed in certain areas of the face. For example, Juvéderm Voluma and Vollure are indicated for mid-face volume because the product is more robust and can support a subtle lift with volume. In contrast, Juvéderm Ultra Plus and Volbella are softer products best suited to add volume to the lips.
Myth #7: I Will Look Worse if I Stop Fillers
A common misconception is once you start filler injections, you can never stop for fear of leaving you with stretched-out, sagging skin. Fillers do not stretch out the skin! If you decide to stop receiving treatments, the filler will eventually dissolve, and you will return to your previous appearance. Filler is not a life-long commitment.
