You’ve probably heard the buzz about berberine and its effects on weight loss. But what is berberine and how does it work? Here’s everything you need to know.

What Is Berberine?

Berberine is a compound found in plants like barberry, goldenseal, and tree turmeric that has been used in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. It has shown promising results for weight loss; however, it is not a magic supplement. Berberine should be considered part of a multi-pronged approach to a healthier lifestyle.

Does Berberine Help with Weight Loss?

Berberine has been shown to help reduce body weight and body mass index (BMI). A 2012 study found that obese individuals who took 500 mg of berberine three times a day for 12 weeks lost an average of 5 pounds and saw significant reductions in BMI and body fat percentage.

How Does Berberine Help with Weight Loss?

Berberine can help with weight loss in a few different ways. It improves insulin sensitivity, allowing the body to use glucose more efficiently, and reduces fat storage. Berberine boosts metabolism, aiding in more effective calorie burning. The supplement even reduces bad cholesterol (LDL) while improving good cholesterol (HDL).

Finally, it encourages a healthy gut microbiome, which aids in weight management and is associated with better metabolic health.

Remember: Berberine is not a standalone solution for weight loss. It should be part of a broader approach to a healthy lifestyle, which includes diet and exercise.

Where Can I Get Berberine?

You don’t have to look far for berberine. We have it in our Ignite® supplement. It includes ingredients like berberine, black Thai ginseng, and brown seaweed to enhance weight loss while increasing whole-body energy. We recommend taking four capsules daily with meals, two at breakfast and two at lunch, to get your daily dose of berberine.
